65 - Meet The 1964-65 Tuscarawas Valley Trojans

Tuscarawas Valley expected great things from its basketball team last season, but because of some key injuries and other unforseen occurrences, had to struggle for an 11-9 record.  The Trojans could make someone "pay" for some of those setbacks!  Ken Gold, in his 2nd year as Coach, has a wealth of talent and pretty good height to work with.  On the minus side of the ledger; however, is lack of experience.  Teamwork, hustle and desire could overcome this handicap though and the Trojans have plenty of these ingredients.  "We have to smooth off the rough edges," Gold says.  "We're as green as grass.  But we hope to jell before mid-season."

There are just 2 lettermen back in the fold, but both are very capable performers.  One is  Senior Bob Burris, 6-3 Forward.  The other is Junior gary Adams, 6-0 Guard.  Burris potted 181 points last season and Adams 86.  One other Trojan stands 6-0, another goes to 6-2, a pair hit 6-3 and still another stretches to 6-4.  So, the Trojans hope to be mighty rugged under the boards.  Who will do most of the scoringisn't known as yet, since last season's best point-makers were graduated.  They were Paul Shipbaugh (284), Dave Widder (235), Gary Ferren (210) and Ron Wolfe (123).  But here are the bright spots,  in addition to Adams and Burris:

Senior Paul Beucler, 6-3 Forward
Senior Fred Clugston, 5-10 Guard
Junior Charles Fishley, 5-9 Guard
Junior Joe Duebner, 5-6 Guard
Junior Terry Burky, 5-11 Guard
Junior Terry Hay, 6-2 Forward
Junior Harold Swinford, 6-4 Forward
Junior Steve Murplhy, 6-0 Forward
Junior Dan Burrier, 6-3 Forward (Didn't play last year because of football injuries)

The Trojans open play December 4, hosting Garaway in a league game which should be a hair-raiser since the Pirates also are expected to have a formidable team.
