65 - Midvale Prevales Again At Hopedale 56-55 (1-2-65)

HOPEDALE - Midvale's unbeaten Blue Devils (10-0) survived their 2nd consecutive scare here Saturday night.  Winners over Conotton Valley 67-66 in overtime December 29, the Pete Hilliard-coached Blue Devils started fast and held on to turn back stubborn Hopedale.  Midvale's well-oiled press completely baffled the Comets in the 1st frame which ended with the Tuscarawas countians on top 24-8.  Midvale continued to hold a commanding advantage by intermission, 41-29.  But, in the 3rd canto the Comets began finding the range and moved to within 2 points, 46-44, at the final rest.  One of the big reasons for the Midvale scare was the fact that its ace cager, Dan Kohler, sat out a quarter and a half because of personal foul trouble.  He went to the bench for the last time with 3:30 left in the tussle. Kohler and teammate Terry Leggett both hit for 13 points, but hd to take a back seat to Comet Dean Polen, 6-2, who found the target for 33.  Midvale, set to visit Baltic Friday, hit on 20 of 58 action attempts, the same as Hopedale and made 16 of 22 charities to 15 of 23 for the Comets.  Seventeen personals were called against each squad.  Kohler hauled in 7 rebounds and teammates Tom Daniels and Bob Carlisle 6 apiece.  The Midvale Reserves (5-3) went on a rampage beating the Hopedale Reserves 51-25.
