65 - Strasburg Controls Baltic 60-43 (12-4-64)

STRASBURG - Baltic (0-1) (0-3) made a gallant bid to pull off the upset of the season, but in the end it was the finesse of the Tigers (1-0) (1-1) that turned the tide.  The Eagles, winless last season and this, used control tactics until the Pete Shahan-coached Tigers put on a tight press in the 3rd canto.  Baltic, under Coach Rich Polczynski, overcame a 9-6 first quarter deficit to go in front 10-9 in the 2nd stanza.  Strasburg, fighting all the way, managed to take a 19-14 halftime edge, but the Eagles came back to tie the count 21-all before the smooth-working Tigers got down to business.  The sharp-eyed Tigers enjoyed a fine night shooting-wise, sinking 25 of 52 action shots and 10 of 22 charities.  Their defensive efforts limited the Eagles to but 11 of 49 from the floor.  Baltic sank 17 of 24 from the foul stripes.  Three Tigers hit double figures in the well-balanced attack, Sophomore whiz John Studer and Rick Hall getting 13 each and Rock VanFossen adding 10.  Keith Miller  of Baltic took game laurels with 19.  Teammate Tim Richardson added 11.  Hall was a demon under the boards, hauling in 18 rebounds.  Miller topped Baltic with 8.  VanFossen and teammate Don Gerber both left the game late in the final frame because of personal foul trouble.  Strasburg visits Hiland and Baltic treks to Malvern tonight.  The Strasburg Reserves (1-1) defeated the Baltic Reserves (0-3), 42-21.
