65 - Port Selects Cage Coach
PORT WASHINGTON - George Thomas head track coach and assistant in basketball for 3 years at Port Washington High, has been elevated to the head basketball job, it was anounced today. Thomas, a graduate of Wheeling Central High and Marshall University of Huntington, West Virginia, replaced Don Durham who resigned April 12. The new head coach is a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served during that time with theSecond Division---combat duty. He is a member of St. Francis DeSales Church and Elks Lodge 1555 of Newcomerstown. His wife, Janis, is vocational home economics teacher at Port Washington High.
