65 - Tusky Tramples Dover St. Joseph's 98-69 (12-4-64)
Bronco Russ McGlothlin (20) goes high in the air to grab a rebound from Ramblers John Capezella (center) and Dave Myers (right). Others in photo are St. Joseph's Denny Capezella (31) and Mickey McCracken (3) and Tuscarawas' George Summers (2) and Ray McWilliams (30).
Too many hands spell the soup and that's what happens here as the officials called a jump ball. Shown are Bronco Rick Eckhardt ( left), Rambler Mickey McCracken, Rambler John Capezella, Bronco Ray McWilliams andRambler Ron Riege.
Tuscarawas High School (Broncos) Senior - Russ McGlothlin (22 Points)
TUSCARAWAS - Familiarity with the court's dimensions and plenty of speed afoot enabled Tuscarawas (1-1) to slap Dover St. Joseph's (0-3) last night. The game, played on the small Bronco court, was a race-horse-type event, with plenty of time being spent at the foul lines. St. Joseph's, made a game of it for only about a half period at which time it led 7-6. Tuscarawas then spurted for 9 consecutive points for a 15-7 advantage and kept up the pressure until 14 seconds remained in the game. Bronco Coach Charles Etling called time out and instructed his boys to hang onto the ball, Rich Eckhardt dribbling until the clock expired. Eckhardt, displaying remarkable ability to spot an opening in the Rambler defense, took game scoring honors with 28 points, several coming on fine drives. Three other Broncos reached double figures, slick Russ McGlothling getting 22, hard-working Ray McWilliams adding 21 and hustling Dave Palsley meshing 16. McGlothlin was the big man under the boards, snaring 13 rebounds. McWilliams pulled down 11. Mickey McCracken led St. Joseph's attack with 21 markers after going scoreless in the 1st frame. Most of his points came on jump shots from the top of the key. John and Denny Capozella each got 13 tallies and Jeff Lammers 10. Fouls aided the Bronco cause. Although the Ramblers made one more charity toss than the Broncos, 23-22, Tuscarawas spent the most time at the lines, 41. Several Ramblers were in personal foul trouble, Denny and John Capozella plus Ron Rieger all having 3 in the 2nd stanza. Denny left the game at 3:37 of the 3rd period and his team behind 65-46. Paisley fouled out with 31 seconds to go in the game. The Art Teynor-coached Ramblers will visit Coshocton Monday to take onCentral Catholic. The Broncos go to Port Washington December 15. The winner of the Reserve game was not reported; however, we do know that Dover St. Joseph's scored 43 points: Zite 0-0-0, Recchiuti 2-4-8, Doutt 0-1-1, Tierney 2-1-5, Soulsby 7-9-23, Nelson 0-0-0, Stans 2-1-5 and Vaughn 0-1-1.
