65 - Tusky Upends Port Washington 61-48 (12-15-64)
PORT WASHINGTON - Tuscarawas (2-2) evened its season slate here last night, upending Port Washington (2-3) 61-48. The Broncos opened up an 18-9 first quarter lead and then held off the Riders for the next 2 stanzas before pulling away in the final quarter. Senior Ken Rankin led the Broncos of Coach Charles Etling with 18 markers. He was given able help by 6-2 Senior Russ McGlothlin who tallied 16 markers and snared 21 rebounds. Dave Paisley and Ray McWilliams chimed in with 10 points each. The Riders of first-year Coach George Thomas were led by Bob Casteel and Leonard Cameron with 17 and 11 points, respectively. Both clubs shot well at the foul line as Tuscarawas hit on 9 of 14 for 64 percent and the Riders 13 of 17 for 66 percent. However, from the field Tuscarawas shot a dazzling 50 percent, while the host Riders a frigid 17 percent. The Bronco defense forced the Riders to shoot from the outside, while they time and again broke through the Rider defense for close shots. The victors held a large advantage in the rebound department as they pulled down 61 to the hosts 29. Both combines turn to Tuscarawas County League action Friday night. Tuscarawas travels to Gnadenhutten and the Riders host Strasburg. The Tuscarawas Reserves (1-1) found it a little harder to dispose of the Port Washington Reserves (0-2) by just nipping them 40-39.
