65 - Midvale Rocks Tusky Valley 87-54 (12-18-64)
MIDVALE - Exhibiting balanced scoring punch and an outstanding effort on the backboards, Midvale High's Blue Devils (3-0) (7-0) had little trouble in posting its 33-point victory over Tuscarawas Valley (0-3) (0-5). The Blue Devils moved to a 13-8 advantage at the end of the 1st period and were never headed. The Trojans failed to muster a counterpart to Midvale's rugged press, used throughout the game. Four Midvale players gained double figures in the scoring department with Dan Kohler leading the way on 21 points. Harvey Byers added 12, Terry Leggett 11 and Chuck DeMattio 10. Harold Swinford topped TV with 20 markers. Kohler, Bob Carlisle and Byers were the big Blue Devils on the backboards as Midvale counted 45 rebounds. The former 2 had 9 apiece and Byers 8. Swindford and Terry Hay pulled down 7 and 5 rebounds, respectively, for the Trojans. Midvale fired in 29 of 65 field shots for 45 percent and 29 of 40 free throws for 73 percent. Tusky Valley connected 20 times in 51 floor bids for 40 percent and on 14 of 32 foul shots for 44 percent. The Midvale Reserves (3-2) broke .500 by edging Tuscarawas Valley (2-3) 45-43.
