65 - Strasburg Turns Back West Holmes 75-61 (1-16-65)




STRASBURG - Pete Shahan and his Strasburg High basketballers (7-3) shugged off Friday night's heart-breaking 2-point loss to Midvale (13-0) and turned back West Holmes (5-5) here Saturday.  Senior Rock VanFossen and Sophomore whiz John Studer formed an unbeatable 1-2 punch for the tough Tigers, scoring 28 and 24 points, respectively.  Three Knights hit double figures, Ken VanSickle leading the way with 18 tallies, Mike Nugent getting 16 and Dean Lowe contributing 10.  Strasburg fired in 43 percent of its floor flings and 17 of 24 charities.  West Holmes was on target 23 percent of the time during action and sank 15 of 23 foul tries.  Rebounds favored the Knights 43-35, with Lowe snaring 11 and VanSickle 10.  Studer worked for 11 to top the Tigers.  Teammates VanFossen and Rick Hall both grabbed 10.  West Holmes led once, 2-1, and the score was tied as many times, 3-3.  From then  on the touted Tigers had things their own way, working the ball in for  the good shots.  Strasburg will host Garaway Friday.  The West Holmes Reserves beat down the Strasburg Reserves (7-2) 53-38.
