65 - Broncos Wax-Hot Against Port Washington 75-63 (1-22-65)





Tuscarawas High School (Broncos) Senior - Rich Eckhardt (28-Points)

TUSCARAWAS - A big 42 point 1st half enabled the Tuscarawas Broncos (1-4) (5-7) to get the  jump on invading Port Washington (1-5) (4-10) last night and hang on during the 2nd half for the Broncos' 1st league win of the season.  Rich Eckhardt, scoring 21 points in the 1st half, ended the night with a 28-point total, good for game laurels.  McGlothlin, pulling down 17 rebounds and contributing 26 points, rounded out the Bronco's 1-2 punch.  The 2 combined efforts in Tuscarawas' crucial final period drive against the battling Riders, scoring 8 and 5 points, respectively.  Ken Rankin came through with 10 points for the victors.  In a bid to match that tripleheader, Port Washington had 4 starters in twin figures.  Leonard Cameron led the way with 21 points, while Bob Casteel, Dan Gay and Rich Fillman added 12, 11 and 10, respectively.  Tuscarawas carried a 42-27 lead into the 3rd period when Port Washington came firing back to close  the gap to 3 points.  The Broncos were on top 54-47 at  the  conclusion  of the stanza.  With McGlothlin and Eckhardt leading  the way, the  Broncos pulled away in the final canto to achieve the victory.  The Broncos ended with a 41 percent mark from the field and cashed in 31 times in 35 free throw tries.  The Tuscarawas Reserves (4-3) sent the Port Washington Reserves (2-7) home with a 48-41 victory.
