65 - Hiland Mugs Strasburg 78-74 (12-5-64)
BERLIN - Hiland (3-0), continuing undefeated Saturday night when it nipped invading Strasburg (1-2), will put its 3-game string on the line on the home court Friday night when Holmes County rival, West Holmes High, invades. Both the Hawks and Tigers waxed white hot in the shooting department here Saturday before the hosts ended a nip-and-tuck struggle by nabbing a 4-point decision. Hiland fired in 34 of 73 field tries for 47 percent, while Strasburg sizzled the nets for a 52 percent mark, meshing 30 of 56 shots. The Hawks were 10 for 23 at the foul line and Strasburg 14 of 24. In a balanced scoring effort, the Hawks were paced by John Hochstetier's 24 points. Ron Miller hit for 22 and Ken Miller for 18. But it remained for Strasburg ace, Ron Lab, to take game scoring laurels. Lab hit 13 fielders and 6 free throws for a 32-point total. Teammate Rock VanFossen added 19 and Tom Dreher 11. Strasburg, setting the early pace, led 21-12 at the end of the 1st period. TheTigers continued in the driver's seat until late in the 2nd period when the Hawks took a brief 32-31 lead. From that point it was anyone's game with the Tigers on top 35-34 at halftime and Hiland ahead 56-51 at the 3rd stop. In the 4th quarter Strasburg lost Rick Hall and Dreher via the 5-foul route. The Tigers host TV Saturday night. The Strasburg Reserves (2-1) nailed the Hiland Reserves 34-27.
