65 - Garaway Defense Stifles Port Washington 54-35 (1-8-65)
PORT WASHINGTON - Leading by only 4 points at the conclusion of the 1st period, Garaway (3-0) (5-2) switched from a zone to a man-to-man press and blanked the Riders (1-3) (3-7) the entire 2nd quarter. The Pirates were rewarded with a 21-7 halftime lead. In the 3rd period Garaway moved to full throttle to post a 37-19 margin entering the final frame. Setting the scoring pace for the victors were Randy Miller and Dan Andreas. Miller granered 20 points, while Andreas who pulled down 13 rebounds, added 17. Leonard Cameron led Port Washington with 19 points. Garaway counted 23 of 61 action shots for 36 percent and 8 of 13 foul shots. Port Washington ended with 26 percent, meshing 16 of 62. The Riders connected 3 times in 7 free throw tries. The Glenn Bower-coached Pirates hosts TV tonight. Port Washington under Coach George Thomas entertains Dennison tonight. In the Reserve game, Garaway (3-2) came down on Port Washington (1-4) 46-26.
