FREEPORT - Inability to cash in from the free throw lines cost Gnadenhutten High (0-1) a basketball victory here Wednesday night. The Indians, coached by Oren Thompson, out-goaled Lakeland 21-19, but wound up on the short end of the final tally. Lakeland, which made 19 of 62 action shots, canned 20 of 37 charities. Gnadenhutten, 21 of 72 from the floor, hit on 14 of 33 foul tries. The Indians fell behind 15-1 in the 1st frame, missing 7 foul shots and trailed 19-6 at the initial rest. They came battling back; however, trailing 33-24 at the half and finally over-taking their hosts 40-39 going into the final frame, thanks to a tight press on defense. The foul line again proved to be the Tribe's undoing as it didn't sink a shot there, while Lakeland sank 7. Fred Simpson, 6-3, led Lakeland in the last canto with 8 markers and took scoring honors for the game with 23. He had able help from Wingrove with 11 and Tyson who got 10. Dan Jinks and Gene Bates paced the Indians with 12 tallies each. Terry Huebner and Fred Glass both got 10. Tyson took rebounding honors with 10. Bill Kohl grabbed 9, Simpson 8 and Crites 7. The Indians will make their second 1964-65 outing Saturday, hosting Garaway. In the Reserve game, Gnadenhutten (1-0) nipped Lakeland 33-31.
