65 - Strasburg Rolls Over Winless Tusky Valley 76-61 (12-12-64)




STRASBURG - The talent-ladded Strasburg Tigers (2-2) put their ability to full capacity here Saturday night and came up with an easy 76-61 decision over winless Tuscarawas Valley (0-4).  The Tigers, who have had their troubles thus far, did nearly everything right against the Trojans and posted 27-13, 45-30 and 66-48 quarter margins.  Pete Shahan watched as his Tigers hit the nets with their usual consistence, sinking 30 of 71 floor attempts for 42 percent.  They made 16 of 25 charities.  TV, under Coach Ken Gold, rimmed 22 of 61 action attempts and 17 of 30 foul tries.  Rock VanFossen, who played in the shadows of some illustrious teammates last season, forged to the foreground here Saturday and took game scoring laurels with 24 points.  Tom Dreher slicked his way for 19 tallies and Ron Lab got 14.  Four Trojans reached 2 digits, Bob Burris meshing 16 markers, Gary Adams 14, Harold Swinford 13 and Charlie Fishley 12.  VanFossen and teammate Rick Hall combined to control the boards, both hauling in 14 rebounds.  Burris contributed heavily, snaring 12.  Tusky Valley led but once, 4-2, as the Tigers used a bothersome full-court press at times.  The Trojans also used a full-court press on occasions.  Dreher and Swinford both left the game in the 3rd canto and VanFossen and Fishley went to the bench in the final frame.  The Tigers, who led by 22 points at onestage of the last canto, will visit Port Washington Friday.  TV will go to Midvale Friday and trek to Leesville Saturday to take on the Conotton Valley Rockets.  The Strasburg Reserves (3-1) slammed the Tuscarawas Valley Reserves (2-2) 72-42.
