65 - Stone Creek Pounds Gnaden 68-47 (12-4-64)
Gnadenhutten High School (Indians): Left to Right, Top to Bottom - Dan Jinks, Gene Bates, Roy Williams, John Parrish, Bill Kohl, Gary Rice, Terry Huebner, Lee Brown, Don Crites and Fred Glass.
GNADENHUTTEN - Stone Creek (1-0) (3-0) jumped out to an early lead and was never headed, taking quarter margins of 17-14, 32-24 and 48-28. The hot shooting of Dave Weber and Jim Wherley had a lot to do with the victory, the former potting 21 points and the latter 16. Dan Jinks got 14 and Bill Kohl 10 for the Indians. Stone Creek, under the 2nd year tutorship of Charles Huggins, connected on 24 of 68 shots from the floor for a fine 45 percent. Gnadenhutten (0-1) (0-3), guided by Oren Thompson, managed only 14 of 47 for 30 percent. The Panthers' Tim Baab and the Indians' Kohl led board duty, snaring 9 and 8 rebounds, respectively. Any hopes Gnadenhutten had diminished in the final stanza as Kohl and Jinks both were forced out of action because of personal foul trouble. Turnovers played a big part in the Indians' downfall as they lost the ball 19 times. Stone Creek committed several miscues in the final frame as the Indians put up an effective press. The damage; however, had already been done. From the foul lines, Gnadenhutten sank 19 of 24 and Stone Creek 18 of 30. Gnadenhutten visits Midvale and StoneCreek hosts Warsaw tonight. In the Reserve game, Stone Creek (1-0) wacked Gnadenhutten (1-2) 39-19.
