65 - Port Washington Slides Past Madison 63-61 (12-19-64)
CADIZ - Some alert work by Rich Fillman and the sharp eyes of Roger Lewis provided Port Washington (3-4) with enough for a victory over Madison near here Saturday night. The winless Eagles had possession with the score tied and a minute to go. They used 4 timeouts, trying to work the ball in for the final shot. But Fillman stole the ball on an inbounds play and after a Purple Rider missed a shot, Lewis grabbed the rebounds 3 feet from the basket and flipped the ball up and in. Fillman and teammate Dan Gay tied for Port Washington scoring honors with 15 points apiece. Don George popped in 28 for Madison. Port Washington, a bit tired as a result of playing 6 games in the past few days, fired in just 26 of 82 action shots for 29 percent and made 11 of 23 fouls. Fillman and teammate Leonard Cameron combined to give the Purple Riders a potent 1-2 rebounding punch, snaring 19 and 16, respectively. The Purple Riders will conduct a holiday tournament the 29th and 30th, with Gnadenhutten, Tuscaraws and Stone Creek also competing. The Port Washington Reserves (1-3) punched out a victory (their 1st of the season) over the Madison Reserves, 47-37.
