65 - Gnaden Clips Baltic 69-66 (1-22-65)





Gnadenhutten High School (Indians) Senior - Gene Bates (25 Points)

GNADENHUTTEN - Indian Coach Oren Thompson used just 5 men against the Rich Polczynski Eagles and 4 of them hit double figures.  Gene Bates was high on the point chart, his totals showing 25.  Eleven came in the final frame when the Tribe (4-2) (6-8) had  to stave off the surging Eagles (0-5) (2-9).  Dan Jinks followed with 15 and Bill Kohl and Terry Huebner each notched 12.  Nine of Huebner's came in the last stanza.  Gary Rice rounded out the scoring, netting 5 markers.  Jeff Schlarb waxed hit for Baltic, tossing in 12 tallies in the final 8 minutes and ending the night with 17.  Keith Miller mustered 12, getting 8 in the last frame.  Gnadenhutten crawled to a 10-8 advantage at the initial rest, led 29-14 by intermission and held its biggest margin of the night...9 points...after 3 rests when the count read 36-27.  The Tribe tossed in 25 of 55 action attempts for a fine 46 percent and hit on 18 of 23 charities.  The Eagles canned 22 of 65 from the floor, a 36 percent tally and showed 10 hits in 21 free throw tries.  Baltic outrebounded Gnadenhutten 44-31 with Miller snaring 13.  Huebner grabbed 10 and Kohl 9 for the victors.  Both teams switched from the man-to-man to zone defenses throughout.  The Baltic Reserves (3-5) nipped the Gnadenhutten Reserves (4-8) 37-36.
