65 - Strasburg Barely Gets By Stone Creek 64-56 (1-29-65)

STRASBURG - Forced to the limit by Stone Creek's battling Panthers (4-3) (12-3), Strasburg's Tigers (5-1) (9-5) came clawing back in the 3rd period and  moved on to victory.  It was an odd game for the Tigers.  Leading 27-19 in the second quarter, they suddenly cooled off and when halftime rolled around, Stone Creek had maneuvered out front 31-30.  Strasburg regained the lead in the 3rd quarter, leading 44-40 at its conclusion.  In the final stanza Stone Creek battled within 2 points, 54-52, before the tough Tigers pulled away to chalk up the nod.  Exhibiting a well-balanced attack, Strasburg had all 5 starters in twin figures.  John Studer,  Ron Lab and Tom Dreher scored 14 points apiece, while Rock VanFosse and Rick Hall tallied 10.  Stone Creek was almost equal to the occasion, placing 3 players in the double payoff.  Vic Turner led the way on 16 points, while John Flinner hit 12 and Jim Wherley 10.  Strasburg meshed 23 of 59 field shots for 39 percent and 18 of 26 foul tries.  Stone Creek was 23 for 45 for 44 percent from the floor and 16 of 22 from the foul line.  While the Tigers are idle tonight, Stone Creek will be playing Tuscarawas in a non-loop fray in New Philadelphia High's gymnasium.  The rolling Strasburg Reserves (10-3) closed down a strong Stone Creek Panther team (9-2) 43-32.
