62 - Strasburg Makes It 3 Straight As They Whip Port 78-58 (12-15-61)

PHOTO:  REAL FLOOR MAN - A Strasburg cager seems to be lost in a forest of legs as he dives to pick up a loose ball on the floor.  He came up with it, and the Tigers came up with the third straight victory, beating Port Washington 78-58.

STRASBURG - Taking their licks over the past couple of seasons after being the perennial power of the hardwood for several years, which included a 46-game win streak in league play, Strasburg (1-0) (3-2) appears to have some of that winning touch.  Snapping a 20-game losing streak only a week ago, the Strasburg Tigers suddenly find themselves on the other side of the ledger today with a sparkling 3-game winning streak.  Sparked by a balanced attack, the Bengals of Coach Warren Binder got on the winning side of the ledger in the victory over Port Washington (0-2) (3-3) last night.  The Bengals boomed out to an 18-9 first quarter lead, led 35-23 at halftime and held a commanding 64-37 advantage going  into the final stanza with the subs taking over.  All-County Jim Clymer led the attack with 21 points, while Sophomore John Peters chimed in with 18 points and Joe Aul had 10 points.  Alvin Fillman led Port with 16 points.  Tom Loader added 13 and Tony Nigro hit for 11.  It was an all-Strasburg night, as the Strasburg Reserves (1-4) walloped the Port Washingont Reserves (3-2) 51-32 and the Strasburg Junior High team exploded against the Port Washington Junior High team 51-13.
