62 - Gnaden Greases Jewett 42-40 (12-29-61)

DENNISON - Winning a final berth opposite the host, Railroaders, was no easy task for the Gnadenhutten Indians (7-2) as they met up with a pesky band of Wildcats from Jewett (3-5).  Although leading most of the way, the Indians could never gain much daylight on the Wildcats who all but sent  it into overtime with a long pass and layup try as the buzzer sounded.  The Indians led by a comfortable 40-33 score with but 2:52 to play in the game before Jewett made big dividends from a full court press  In the next minute of action the Wildcats popped in 5 quick markers to narrow the count to 40-38 with the scoreboard reading 1:47.  Dick Shull and Bob Ervin got free throw tosses for Gnaden with 1:12 and 41 seconds to play, but neither could find the range, while little Tom Dutton found it for Jewett with 32 seconds to play which tied the score at 40-all.  Ervin made amends for his missed charity shot seconds later when he took a pass in the corner and drove in for a layup with just 6 seconds on the clock to put the charges of Coach Ron Sakola in the lead, 42-40.  Ervin and Shull were the leading scorers for Gnaden with 10 each, while Dale Waller, Jewett's big 6-6  center, canned 14 points for game laurels.  Shooting wise, Gnaden dropped 19 of 58 action shots, while Jewett caned 14 of 60.
