62 - Hiland Rolls Past Garaway 68-58 (1-16-62)

SUGARCREEK - Rollicking off to a 17-2 first quarter lead, the Hiland Hawks (10-2) decisioned host Garaway (10-4) Tuesday night for their ninth straight victory.  The win avenged an earlier 41-32 setback to Garaway, marking the last time that the Hawks had been beaten this year.  The loss snapped Garaway's 6-game victory streak.  The high flying Hawks of Hiland opened the game with a rush, scoring on 7 of their first 10 shots, most of which were long set attempts.  With Garaway unable to find the range, Hiland rolled up a 17-2 advantage when the first quarter buzzer sounded.  Garaway "won" the next 3 quarters, but couldn't overcome that big early Hiland lead.  The Pirates narrowed the gap a few points in the second frame to leave the floor trailing 30-18.  It was 47-31 at the third quarter stop, although the Pirates did get as close as 9 points at times.  Hiland cooled off after the opening rush and finished with 23 field goals in 49 attempts for 47 percent.  Garaway canned 20 of 58 for 41 percent.  The winners counted 4 starters in double figures, paced by Art Mullet with 16.  Ken Hochstetler had 15 and Andy Ahijewych and Colin Mishler netted 13.  Roy Yoder paced Garaway with 15 points.  Geof Stevanus potted 14 points and Don Deetz tallied 13.  The Garaway Reserves (8-4) had earlier knocked off the Hiland Reserves 31-27.
