62 - Dennison Rolls By Port 65-49 (1-19-62)

PORT WASHINGTON - The Dennison Railroaders rolled into Port Washington (3-10) last night and built up a full head of steam to come out with a victory.  Using a slightly revamped lineup which saw Senior Bob Whitmire starting in place of Fred Lecce, the Railroaders jumped off to an early 14-8 first period margin.  Dennison increased that to 31-24 at the half and 45-35 at the final stop.  Dennison held an 11-point lead in the first half before the Purple Riders cut the margin to 7.  Port cut the deficit to 35-32 at the start of the third period before Dennison pulled out the stops to lead by as much as 20 points in the final canto.  John Neighbor took game honors with 21 points with Whitmire hitting for 14 and Dick Selzer 13.  Port Washington was led by Ken Gay who canned 18 points,  while Tom Loader followed by 10.  Dennison experienced its best night at the free throw line, hitting on 17 of 20 shots.  Dennison Reserves picked up the first win of the night by edging the Port Washington Reserves (3-8) 25-22.  In an earlier contest, Dennison's faculty was upended by the port faculty 33-27.  The clubs will meet again in Dennison February 3thas Dennison's faculty asked for a rematch.
