62 - Gnaden Gets By TV 58-47 (1-20-62)
BOLIVAR - A bad second quarter cost the Tusky Valley Trojans (1-10) any chance they might have had for a big upset Saturday night as they fell to the tall Gnadenhutten Indians (12-4). TV led 14-12 after the first quarter, but was outscored 14-6 in the second stanza and never was able to recover after that. Tusky Valley connected on 22 of its 62 action attempts for 36 percent, while Gnadenhutten managed to find the range on 19 of 48 attempts for 40 percent. The big difference came at the foul line where Gnadenhutten canned 20 of 23 attempts. Tusky Valley shot only 6 times from the free throw line and made just half of those attempts. Jim McCreary, Brad Kaiser and Bob Ervin each scored 5 points to pace Gnadenhutten. Dean Nemetz and Verl Hickman had 10 apiece for Tusky Valley. Tusky Valley (2-3) (2-10), improving steadily under the watchful eye of Coach Bob Heller, upset Baltic (2-3) (7-7) 55-51 Friday night in a league game. Gary Ferren tossed in 20 points to pace Tusky Valley in that game, while Dick Gerber had 19 for Baltic. NOTE: The Baltic TV game was not reported by the Daily Reporter on January 20, 1962 and is the reason for them to mention it here. The Tuscarawas Valley Reserves (9-2) top the Gnadenhutten Reserves (9-5) 52-37.
