62 - Augusta Victim Of Stone Creek's 1st Win 41-38 (12-3-61)



STONE CREEK - Scoring heavily in the second half, the Stone Creek Panthers (1-2) clawed Augusta for their first victory of the season Saturday night on their home floor.  The Panthers trailed throughout most of the first half, coming out on  the short end of the score at both the end of the first quarter, 12-10, and the half, 20-19, but it was in the third quarter in which they started moving.  In the third period, Stone Creek outscored the invaders 13-5 and took the lead.  Augusta challenged in the final 8 minutes, but couldn't overhaul the Panthers.  The game was decided at the foul line where Stone Creek made 11 of 19 shots, while Augusta could mesh only 2 of its 9 bonus attempts.  Augusta outscored the Panthers from the field, 18-15.  Neither team was able to find the range from  the floor.  Stone Creek hit only 26 percent, 15 of 56 , and Augusta did only a little better, canning 18 of 60 for 30 percent.  Bob Hamilton and Jim Billman shared scoring honor's for Stone Creek with 11 points apiece.  Wes Crawford was tops for Augusta with 17 counters.  The Panthers, coached by Ken Lawhun, had to do without regular forward Ed Wallace, who missed the game because of sickness.  The Reserve game was won by Augusta 37-36 over Stone Creek (0-1).
