MIDVALE - "Patience and Fortitude" were the by-words of the high flying Midvale Blue Devils (8-1) last night as they racked up their eighth victory in 9 starts by whipping Port Washington's Purple Riders (3-6).  From the opening jump until the final buzzer, Port used a deliberate, methodical offense in an effort to stymie the hosts who have been beaten only once this season, but Coach Pete Hilliard's Devils awaited their chances and then capitalized on them for the victory.  Midvale crawled to a 9-2 first quarter lead, led only 14-7 at the half and then took a 24-14 advantage into the last quarter.  The hosts stayed back and waited in the first half, but went out to meet the situation in  the back court in the second half, finishing with a flury with a "big" 19 point final quarter.  Walt Weaver and Rick Belknap led the Devils with 11 points each, while Neal Beans, showing signs of being completely recovered from his knee injury, dumped in 9.  Tom Loader's 8 points were high for Port and Coach Don Durham.  Only 22 personals were called in the slow game, 12 againsst the invading Riders.  Midvale Reserves (8-1) walked over the Port Washington Reserves (3-4) 40-33.
