62 - Jack Evans Chosen MVP For Newcomerstown Tourney (12-30-61)



NEWCOMERSTOWN - Dover St. Joseph's and Newcomerstown closed out 1961 on a successful note Saturday night, capturing decisions in the Second Annual Newcomerstown Holiday Tournament.  The St. Joseph's Ramblers walloped Baltic 75-54 to successfully defend the championship won last year.  In the consolation game, Newcomerstown came from behind to throttle the Panthers of Stone Creek 51-39.  Tournament champion St. Joseph's placed 4 cagers on the all-tournament team selected by press and radio representatives.  Jack Evans, St. Joseph's Senior co-captain, was chosen the tournament's most valuable player.  Others chosen on the All-Star Team were Tom Young, Nick Pace and Jerry Reiger of St. Joseph's; Gary Gunn, Butch Williams and Ernie Art of Newcomerstown; Dick Gerber and Jack Miller of Baltic and Verle "Curley" Endlich of Stone Creek.
