62 - Dennison Edges Garaway 42-40 (1-20-62)

SUGARCREEK - The unpredictable Dennison Railroaders gave notice at Sugarcreek Saturday night that they are at their best when the pressure is on.  The Railroaders' John Neighbor hit from outside the key with 5 seconds left in the game for a hard-earned win over Garaway (11-5).  The score was tied 5 times and changed hands 4 times in the contest.  The Pirates threatened 3 times to runaway with the game.  Garaway led by 7 points twice, 17-10 at the start of the second quarter and 21-14 midway in the same period and by 9, 31-22 at the start of the third.  Garaway jumped out to a 6-1 lead as the game began, but Dennison knotted the count 6-6 with 3:45 left and later went ahead 8-6 as Evo Marini, who paced all scorers with 18 points, hit from the side.  Garaway then tied the score 8-8 and later 10-10 after Dennison again had gone ahead.  Garaway held a 13-10 first period margin and led 23-20 at the half.  A tenacious defense by Dennison in the fourth quarter harried the usually good-shooting Pirates and limited them to but 3 goals in 15 attempts.  Dennison, on the other hand, came through with 4 out of 8.  The game went right down to the wire before Neighbor hit from out in front for a 42-40 Dennison lead.  With 2 seconds left Garaway called time out.  When the Pirates returned to the floor, Roy Yoder fired a desparation shot from mid-floor, but the ball hit the rim and bounced off.  Garaway's Coach Glenn Bower was more than slightly perturbed over the officiating.  "We felt it was the poorest officiated game we've had in some time here," he stated.  "We never got to shoot the one-and-one," he added.  The Dennison Reserves buried the Garaway Reserves (8-6) 30-15.
