62 - Dennison Nips Gnaden 55-54 For Title (12-30-61)

DENNISON - The Dennison Railroaders successfully defended their title in the Third Annual Dennison Holiday Tournament Saturday night when they defeated Gnadenhutten's Indians (7-3) 55-54 in an overtime session.  The preliminary tilt went to Tuscarawas with a 65-50 win over Jewett.  Coming frm behind to drop the Indians is becoming a fad for the Railroaders as they have defeated them in the  fiknals of the holiday tournament the past 3 years.  The latest decision was routine as the determined Railroaders first held a small lead only to see the invaders take charge.  Gnadenhutten then tied the game and went into a lead before Dennison again took the lead.  The tribe then tied it up to send the tilt into overtime.  The lead changed hands 14 times and the widest lead was the last surge by the Indians which gave them a 6-point margin  with 3:58 to play.  However, baskets by Nick Cummings and Dick Selzer, plus 2 free throws by John Neighbor tied the count at 46 all with 2:36 to play.  Then Bruce Kohl gave the Indians a 48-46 lead with 1:51 to play and Selzer once more tied the game with a layup at 1:35.  Selzer also gave the hosts the lead with a layup.  But, Selzer was guilty of charging and  Brad Kaiser stepped to the foul line with 1:10 to play and dogged in both of his shots to tie the score and force the overtime.  In overtime, Gnadenhutten took a 52-50 lead, but a basket and a foul by Selzer and a pair of fouls by Neighbors earned the Railroaders a victory.  Dick Selzer and John Neighbor lead Dennison, while Bruce Kohl and Bob Ervin lead Gnaden---all with 15 apiece.
