62 - Dennison Buries Midvale 61-44 (1-30-62)
DENNISON - The Dennison Railroaders (11-4) put forth a tremendous team effort last night to dehorn the Midvale Blue Devils (12-4). It was John Neighbor's 8 points in the second period which sparked the Railroaders to a 32-18 halftime lead after leading only 14-11 at the first stop. Dick Selzer grabbed 17 rebounds with Neighbor also coming up with fine board work and 12 rebounds. Evo Marini netted 2 quick fielders on fast breaks to put Dennison in the lead for the first time at 2:15 of the first period. The Railroaders were ahead the rest of the way. Dennison used a quick-closing zone defense throughout the rest of the game and prevented Midvale from scoring until 1:33 in the second quarter when Walt Weaver hit from the charity line. Meanwhile, Dennison was ripping the cords for 12 straight points and a 26-11 lead. The closet the Devils came in the second half was 12 points, 49-37, at 5:02 of the last period. Neighbor ended with 19 points for the night with Cummings adding 9 to the cause. Neal Beans was the only Devil in double figures with 16 points. The Dennison Reserves started off the night by edging the Midvale Reserves (13-2) 33-28.
