62 - Gnaden Ruins TV Opener 71-35 (12-8-61)
GNADENHUTTEN - The Gnadenhutten Indians (1-0) (0-1), still smarting from their 29 point output last week against Garaway, turned on the steam in the second half to scalp the Trojans of Tuscarawas Valley (0-1) (0-1). The loss spoiled the bid for an opening victory by Tusky Valley, which goes into this season without a single lettermen. It was a close first half struggle, as Gnaden moved from a 13-13 tie at the first stop to a slim 28-17 margin by intermission. But with Sophomore Bruce Kohl leading the way on the boards and in the point department, the Indians got rolling in the last 2 stanzas, including a 24 point third quarter. Kohl, in his first season of varsity, tallied 18 points to lead the assault and he and Brad Kaiser were demons on the boards in the uprising. Veteran Bob Ervin also chimed in with 17 points. Ed Crawford paced Tusky Valley, co-champions of the league last season, with 11 points. The Gnadenhutten Reserves (2-2) dumped Tuscarawas Valley Reserves (0-1) 24-18.
