62 - Garaway Cops 44-37 Decision Over TV (12-19-61)

PHOTO:  WHERE'S THE BALL - Members of  the Tusky Valley and Garaway basketball teams search frantically for a loose ball in last night's game.  Eventually Garaway came up with it and the Pirates were off and running.  They won  44-37.

BOLIVAR - Garaway's Pirates (5-3) snapped a 3-game losing streak Tuesday night by downing the host Tuscasrawas Valley Trojans (0-4) in a non-league affair.  The Pirates, who went into a tailspin after copping their first 4 games this season, snapped back from a pair of breath-taking losses over the weekend.  Tusky Valley, which has yet to win, gave the defending County League Champion quite a scrap before dropping its fourth straight.  The game was decided at the foul line where Garaway hit a torrid 87 percent, canning 14 of 16 charity tosses.  TV meshed 5 of its 10 bonus tries, but missed the first effort on the one-and -one too many times.  Tusky Valley stuck right with Garaway in the first half, trailing by only 13-11 at the end of the first period and 23-22 at halftime.  The Pirates got going in the third frame to outscore the Trojans 19-4 and put the game on ice.  From the field, Tusky Valley outshot the pirates with a 29 percent mark, 16 of 55.  Garaway made 15 of its 63 action shots for 24 percent.  Coach Glenn Bower had 3 Pirates in double figures, topped by Roy Yoder with 13, Dan Bleininger had 12 points and Geof Stevanus notched 11.  Mike Boyd set the pace for Tusky Valley with 10 counters.  The Tusky Valley Reserves (3-1) rolled over the Garaway Reserves (3-3) 31-25.
