62 - Perry Melts TV "Freeze" To Win 58-36 (1-28-62)
CANTON - For awhile Saturday night it looked as though the "freeze" employed by the invading Tusky Valley Trojans (2-12) might work against Perry's Panthers (9-4). But, slowly and steadily Perry turned on the heat and melted away the freeze for a victory. Coach Bob Heller's Trojans held Perry to a snail's pace in the first quarter and trailed only 5-4 as the first period ended. The host Panthers picked up the pace slightly in the second frame and increased their lead to 20-12. The Panthers broke the game wide open in the third quarter when they poured in 25 points to Tusky Valley's 12 to take a 45-24 lead into the final quarter. Perry found the range on 25 of 68 action attempts for 32 percent. TV again had trouble scoring from the field and managed only 10 field goals in 40 shots for 25 percent. Don Keeler was tops for Perry with 16 points. Ken Burris, Dean Nemetz and Ed Crawford all had 7 points for Tusky Valley. In the Reserve game, Tuscarawas Valley (10-3) was the winner over Perry 50-45 (best guess).
