61 - West Lafayette Downs Baltic 62-49 (12-31-60)
WEST LAFAYETTE - The resurgent West Lafayette Generals (2-5) sent the Baltic Eagles (7-4) to their fourth defeat of the campaign here last night. The Generals have won 2 straight games, both over Tuscarawas County opposition. They had lost 5 straight contests, and hit the victory trail recently by defeating Newcomerstown. Baltic found itself with a 9-0 deficit early in the game, and near the end of the first period West Lafayette just doubled the count, by booting its margin to 18-2. It ended the first quarter 21-6. The Eagles got back in the game in the second and third periods by knocking down the margin to 32-20 and 44-33, but the big Generals' first period proved too much to overcome. Larry Oswald led the Eagles with 17 points, while Dick Gerber and Dick Lautenschleger connected for 11 and 10, respectively. Jim Royce paced the Generals with 22 points and Gary McElfresh added 18. Gary Mast of the Eagles has to leave the game in the third period when he suffered a cut over his right eye. Lautenschleger fouled out in the fourth stanza, while Randy Simons of West Lafayette suffered his fifth personal in the final chapter. West Lafayette also won the Reserve game 56-43 over the Baltic Reserves (7-3).
