61 - Baltic In Easy Win Over Fresno 70-55 (11-30-60)
FRESNO - Controlling both back boards in a show of superior rebounding strength the Baltic Eagles (2-2) evened their season record here last night when they defeated Coshocton County rival Fresno (0-2). The Eagles had a rash of bad passing, committing 13 turnovers, but it wasn't enough to deter them in their victory bid, although the final tally might have been larger than the final 15-point margin. Charles McPherson, Ted Oswald and Larry Lautenschleger led the Eagles' outstanding board play by grabbing a total of 45 rebounds. McPherson snared 17, Oswald 18 and Lautenschleger 10. Lautenschleger once again was high point man for Baltic and he poured in 22 points. Dick Gerber added 15 and Gary Mast connected for 10. Leading the way for the host Indians was Butch Gribbs and Gary Zinkon with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Never in trouble and roaring to a 20-12 lead at the end of the first period, Baltic connected on 40 percent of its field goal attempts when it made 24 of 60. The Eagles meshed 22 of 32 foul shots for 66 percent. Fresno hit 11 of 17 from the free throw line for 65 percent. The Indians' other loss was to Coshocton Sacred Heart. The Baltic Reserves won their game by a score of 35-21 over the Fresno Reserves.
