61 - Garaway In 81-71 Triumph At Gnaden (12-3-60)

GNADENHUTTEN - Garaway(4-1), hard pressed in the first 3 periods, pulled away from Gnadenhutten (1-2) in the last quarter here last night to score another victory.  In rebounding into the victory column, following Tuesday night's loss to Hiland, the Pirates increased their record.  The hot-shooting Pirates, who connected on 30 of 49 action shots for a brilliant 61 percent, led all the way, but put the game on ice with a final period spurt.  They held a 58-53 lead at the end of the third quarter, but outscored the hosts 23-8 to insure the win.  Gnaden, which connected for a respectable 36 percent mark from the field,  got to within 3 points, 56-53 with 40 seconds remaining in the third period.  Four of Garaway's starters blasted into the double figure column with Bob Raber scorching the nets for 27 points to lead the win.  Bill Yakley added 17, Tom Andreas 16 and Dan Bleininger 15.  The well-balanced Pirate attack is significant in that it certainly rates them as a solid candidate for a successful defense of its Tuscarawas County Class "A" League title.  Carl Dichler led the Tribe with 18 points and Bill Blickensderfer came through with 16.  In  the Reserve game, Gnaden (3-0) destroyed Garaway (1-1) 50-34.
