61 - Garaway Knocks Off Stone Creek Again 77-47 (1-7-61)

PHOTO:  PIRATES GET THIRD LEAGUE WIN - Garaway High's Pirates, defending Tuscarawas County Class "A" League Champion, was seeking their third straight league triumph Friday night when they entertained Stone Creek's Panthers (2-9).  The above 6 players, who recently huddled with Coach Glenn Bower, are playing the key roles for the Bucs this season in their 9-2 record.  KNEELING - Coach Glenn Bower, Jarret Gray and Bill Yakley.  STANDING - Nick Smith (left), Tom Andreas, Roy Yoder and Bob Raber.  Raber and Andreas, the 2 returning starters from last year's club which advanced to the Districk Class "A" finals, are leading the team in scoring with 153 and 137 points, respectively.  Dan Bleininger has tallied 91 points, Yakley 89, Yoder 63 and Gray 53.

Stone Creek (0-4) (2-9) made a game bid to upend Garaway (3-0) (9-2).  The Panthers stayed right with the Bucs in the first half when they made a scintallating 10 for 20 from the field for 50 percent.  But with Roy Yoder pumping in 15 of his 16 points the Pirates held narrow margins of 16-14 and 31-29 at the first stops.  In the second half the remainder of the Bucs caught fire and Stone Creek cooled off.  It made only 5 of 24 goal attempts to end the night with 15 for 44 for 34 percent.  Garaway also had a 41-20 advantage in rebounds.  The  Stone  Creek performance drew high praise from Garaway Coach  Glen Bower.  But he also complimented his charges for their fine floor game.  Their number of turnovers was the least amount of the season.  Bob Raber led the victorious charge with 27 points and Tom Andreas added 17 to support Yoder's first-half performance.  Garaway ended the night by connecting 32 times in 75 tries from the field for 43 percent.  In the fourth period Garaway tallied 22 points before Stone Creek dented the scoring column.  The Garaway Reserves (4-3) had the Stone Creek Reserves (0-9) walking the plank 47-14.
