61 - Baltic Picks Up 1st Win At Stone Creek 72-65 (11-28-60)

BALTIC - The outstanding individual performance of the young 1960-1961 basketball season led the Baltic Eagles (1-2) to their first victory here Saturday night.  Sparked by Larry Lautenschleger's 35 points the Eagles sent the Stone Creek Panthers (0-3) to their third straight defeat.  While Lautenschleger was seemingly unstoppable the Eagles had their hands full with the Panthers' Gale Sauser who tallied 29 points.  Larry Stephon followed with 19 for the losers.  Rube Mullet followed Lautenschleger in the Baltic scoring column with 10 points.  Lautenschleger's big night saw him collect 14 field goals in 19 attempts.  He missed only once in the second half as the Eagles ended the night by connecting on 29 of 65 field goal attempts for 43.2 percent, their best to date.  Stone Creek also enjoyed its best night percentage-wise.  It made 23 of 55 field goal attempts for 41.8 percent.  The Panthers added 19 free throws in 34 tries and the Eagles fired in 14 of 20.  Going into the final period it was a nip and tuck affair.  But at that point the Eagles opened a 12-point lead, putting the game on ice.  The Baltic Reserves (1-1) also picked up their 1st win over the Stone Creek Reserves (0-3).
