61 - Stone Creek Wins Consolation In Sudden Death Over Jewett 51-49 (12-31-60)
DENNISON - Stone Creek Panthers (2-8) edged Jewett in a triple overtime for Consolation honors in the Second Annual Dennison Holiday Basketball Tournament. Larry Stephon was Stone Creek's shining knight in armor today. He followed a shot by Gale Sauser for the game-deciding basket at 1:30 of the third overtime. It was only the third field attempt the Panthers had taken in the 3 extra periods. The game was tied 3 times in the final period. Jewett tied it at 45-45 with 3:35 remaining to play and moved into a 47-45 lead before Sauser put his club at a 47-47 deadlock. With 9 seconds left of regulation time Jewett called time out and then played for the last shot. Willie Noble made the basket, but fouled Stephon when the Panthers attempted to get the ball in bounds. He made both shots on the one-and-one to knot the count 49-49 and send the game into overtime. Neither team scored in the first or second overtime periods and it took Stephon's fielder to decide the contest. He ended the night with 14 points, while Sauser led the team with 19 markers. Mike Torchik paced the losers with 18 points. Stone Creek hit 30 percent from the field and Jewett hit 21 percent.
