61 - Midvale Remains No. 1 In 57-46 Win Over Tusky (12-3-60)

TUSCARAWAS - Midvale's Blue Devils (3-0) stood alone today at the top of the Tuscarawas County Class "A" League following their triumph over previously unbeaten Tuscarawas (2-1) Friday night.  Impressive for 3 quarters, during which time they burned the nets for a commanding 52-32 advantage, the Devils nevertheless were hard-pressed in the final canto to preserve the win.  The hapless Tusky attack suddenly sparked alive in the final stanza, outscoring the invaders 14-5 before bowing.  Junior Neal Beans led the Devils to their third straight triumph with 15 points, while Warren Leggett and Rick Belknap chimed in with 12 points apiece.  Belknap was particularly hot in the first half, dropping 5 straight from  the corner that shoved the "Big Blue" in front 23-7 at the first stop and then to a 33-21 lead at intermission.  Shooting well from the outside, the Devils dropped 48 percent of their flings, while Tusky hit 27 percent led by the jump push shots of Chet Summers who led the broncos with 13 points.  The Tusky Reserves (2-0);however,  remained undefeated as they stopped the Midvale Reserves (2-1) 55-44.
