PORT WASHINGTON - Port Washington's Purple Riders (6-7) moved out of league action last night long enough to pick up their 6th win as they put down Malvern (1-9). Unable to convert the over-aggressive Malvern play into more points, Port was leading only by one point in the forth and last quarter. But a clutch drive in by Port's Gary Gay gave them a 3-point cushion with just 45 seconds left on the clock. Bill Phillips led Coach Dick King's crew with 14 points and Jim Bender potted 11. Bill Tucci paced the Green Hornets with 15 points. During the 1st game of the night, the Port Washington Reserves (4-6) blasted the Malvern Reserves 49-25.
