61 - TV Bullies Gnaden In 69-60 Triumph (12-10-60)

Tuscarawas Valley (1-0) (1-0) again has a crappy ball club.  The Trojans, who have lacked height in recent seasons, are in the same boat again this year and are making up for it in hustle, desire and scrap.  As a result last night against Gnadenhutten (0-1) (1-3) they committed more than the usual number of fouls, much of which was attributed by veteran Coach Robert Heller as being due to the fact his charges still have a little football in their blood.  But the Trojan fouling, which resulted in Al Cerett,  Rod Cropper and  Ron Lake leaving the game via the 5-foul route, kept Gnadenhutten in the game.  Coach Ron Sakola's team tallied only 5 goals in the first half, scoring 21 of their 31 points from the free-throw line.  In the final statistics the Indians meshed 30 of 42 free throws for a 72 percent mark.  Tusky Valley doubled Gnadenhutten's goal output when it made 29 of 65 for 45 percent, a top notch opening-night showing.  Gnadenhutten collected 15 of 39 goal attempts for 39 percent.  A Trojan press limited the  Indians' shooting tries.  Three Trojans scored in double figures with Jim  Studer leading the parade on his 26 points.  Lake added 16 and Mike Widder 12.  Chuck Ferren, the Trojans' biggest player at 6-3, turned in a good job on the boards,  while Cerett was a defensive standout.  Bill Blickensderfer was the big man for the Indians with 21 points and Dave Struchen added 13.  In the Reserve game, Gnadenhutten (4-0) defeated TV (0-1) 38-28.  In the Junior High game, TV (1-0) walloped Gnaden 69-36.
