61 - Gnaden in 55-54 Overtime Win Over Baltic (1-14-61)
It was the second straight overtime league victory for the raging Indians of Gnadenhutten (4-1 (7-4) and Coach Ron Sakola. Gnaden led most of the way over the previously unbeaten Baltic Eagles 3-1 (8-6)--in league action--until Willis Mullet buckeetd the big one in the fading seconds of regulation time to knot the count 50-all. Baltic regained the ball and stalled until two seconds were left for a final shot. The Eagles missed and a three minute overtime followed. Carl Dichler got Gnaden off to a good start in the opening seconds, but Chuck McPherson matched the bucket for Baltic to tie it once more at 52-52. Finally, Ray Rank potted one for the Indians, but once more Baltic rose to the occasion. Gary Mast providing the two pointer for another 54 dreadlock. With 29 seconds remaining, Rank broke the ice with a charity toss. Baltic got possession, but failed to produce and Gnaden was in charge with nine seconds to go, stalling the ball for the exciting win. Gnaden led at the stops 18-13, 21-27 and 43-42. Rank and Bob Ervin shared scoring honors for the victors with 14 points, while Dichler chimed in with 12. Larry Lautenschleger topped the Eagles with 16.
