61 - Stone Creek Ends Losing Streak With 47-44 Win (1-9-61)
STONE CREEK - An 11-game home court losing streak was brought to an end here Saturday night by Stone Creek (3-9) when it defeated invadeing Scio. Stone Creek's last victory on the home hardwoods came on February 6, 1959, when it topped Malvern 63-43. The Panthers led throughout the game and had as much as a 12-point margin during the third quarter. Thus the 1960-1961 season, althugh far from finished, has already been 3 times better than the 1959-1960 campaign when the Panthers were winless. Earlier this season they ended a 27-game losing streak when they defeated Newcomerstown. Scio out goaled the Panthers 17-15, but the hosts picked up the difference at the free throw line, taking advantage of a number of personal foul calls on the invaders, who used a pressing defense. Stone Creek meshed 17 of 34 from the charity line, while Scio made 10 of 16. Larry Steplhon turned in a top notch job on the boards for the Panthers and tied teammate Cliff Endlich for scoring honors when each tallied 13 points. Phillips led Scio with 11 points. The Panthers made 15 of 48 from the field for 31 percent and Scio 17 of 53 for 31 percent. The Scio Reserves ran past the Stone Creek Reserves (0-10) 33-28 in overtime.
