63 - School Head Named At Port (7-30-62)

PORT WASHINGTON - Clifton L. McMahon, 31, of Croton,  Ohio, was named today as new executive head of Salem-Washington Local School District by John Foust, school board president.  McMahon was approved at last week's meeting and formally accepted the position last night following his release from the Croton contract.  He succeeds John Toth Jr., who resigned recently to accept a fellowship at Ohio University where he will work on his doctorate's degree.

McMahon received his Bachelor of Science in Education Degree in 1953 and his Master's in 1954, both at Ohio University.  He also has taken additional graduate work at Ohio University and Ohio State University.  Entering the teaching profession in 1954, McMahon instructed history and physical education at Malta-McConnelsville High until he joined the Air Force.  He resumed his teaching career in 1958 at Upper Sandusky High as a social studies instructor, coach, dean of boys, and athletic director in 1961, became principal of Harford Junior High in Croton.  McMahon is married and the father of 2 children.  He will assume his duties Wednesday.
