DOVER - "This could be the year Strasburg High climbs back to the top as one of Tuscarawas County's leading teams."  That statement comes from head basketball Coach Warren Binder who feels a program introduced 2 years ago will start paying dividends during the 1962-1963 season.  Five lettermen return this season, led by Senior 2-year veteran Adrian Edie, an all-county selection in 1961-1962.  Other returnees are 2-year letterman Joe Aul, a Senior, and John Peters, a Junior.  Prospective candidates for varsity action are Frank Welling, a 5-11 Senior with some experience, and Fred Scherer, a 6-0 Junior, considered a very good shot.  Up from the Freshman squad are Rock Van Fossen (5-11), Ron Lab (5-10), Rich Hall (6-3),Bob Mills (5-11) and Tom Dreher (5-6),  Van Fossen is considered a good bet to stick with  the varsity this year.  Edie, despite standing only 5-6, is one of the finest guards in the area.  He had 199 points last year to top all Tiger returnees.  Wallick, 6-3, is a good shot and a strong board man and is an early favorite for County laurels this season.  He plays forward or center.  Last year, he had 156 points.  Aul, 6-2 and 235 pounds, is a strong defensive performer and a top-notch rebounder.  Gessner, 5-10, is a good ball handler, can shoot well and also is a fine rebounder.  This could be his finest year.  He potted 152 points last season.  Peters (6-0) could be one  of the County's top scorers this year.  He is considered the best shot on  the team.  He had 154 points in 1961-1962.  Strasburg was 1-19 two years ago, but snapped back to an 11-7 record last season.  The Tigers' mark included victories over powerful Hiland and  Sandy Valley.
