62 - Midvale Romps Again 16-1 Over Stone Creek...Playoff Looms (5-14-62)

MIDVALE - A possible playoff for the Tuscarawas County League Baseball Crown existed today following victories by Midvale (7-2) and Gnadenhutten (10-2) Monday as both sport 7-1 Spring league marks today.  No official word has been received on a playoff, but according to unofficial records, the 2 schools were deadlocked after their final league games of the season.  Midvale, whose only losses in 9 games this spring came via the fall champion and tourney winner Gnaden, had little trouble with Stone Creek (1-7) Monday, posting the victory.  Neal Beans (5-2) once again had his pin-point control, the southpaw hurling hitless ball for the first 4 innings before Jim Albaugh (0-0) took over.  Albaugh allowed only 2 hits the final 3 innings.  Ed Wallace (0-4) was the first of 3 Stone Creek pitchers, the trio allowing 9 hits.  Midvale had one error, while the Panthers committed 5 miscues.  Leading the Midvale barrage for Coach Pete Hilliard were Tom Mackey and Don Basquin, slaming triples, Bob Byers had a triple and single, Don Ickes a double.  Beans had 2 doubles and Bob Anderson  a bases-loaded double.  All 3 Stone Creek hits were singles.
