63 - Port Washington Slated To Begin Classes September 4



PORT WASHINGTON - Classes for Salem-Washington Schools will convene September 4 at 8:40AM and be dismissed at 11:30AM.  Dismissal time for the remainder of the year will be 3:33PM.  A general meeting for all teachers will be held in  the Port Washington building September 3 at 9AM and a meeting of teachers in their respective buildings is set September 4 at 1:30PM.  The faculties will be:

Washington Township - Mrs. Esther Burkey, Mrs. Edra Hursey and Vernon Powell, principal.  Port Washington - Mrs. Mary Veley, Mrs. Dorothy Mehok, Mrs. June Stemple, Luther Lindon, Neil  Compton, George Thomas, Mrs. Jeanne Palmer, Mrs. George Thomas, Earl Leonhard, James Pfieffer, Charles Knight, Charles Harshbarger and Donald Durham.  Compton is elementary principal and Clifton McMahon, executive head.

Members of the Board of Education are John Foust, J. William Gray, Donald Casteel, Cyril McMullen and Lloyd Roth.  Neil Compton is clerk.  Bus routes will be the same as last year.  Drivers are Luther Lindon, Neil Compton, George Fillman, Richard Bond,  Marvin Hursey, James Pfeiffer and Charles Knight.  Drivers will meet August 27 at 7PM in Port Washington building.  Cafeteria cooks are Mrs. Ruth Martin, Mrs. Mary Johns and Mrs. Ida Dayton.  School lunch prices will remain at 30 cents.  Mrs. Ruth Scott is secretary and Lester West and Richard Bond are custodians. 

To enter 1st Grade a child must be 6 years old on or before September 1.  A written statement that each child has had preventative shots and immunizations  must be presented.  Cost of a student Insurance policy will be $2.  New elementary students are to register at the respective schools August 27 between 8AM and 5PM, Freshmaen and Sophomores, August 28 from 8 to noon and Juniors and Seniors, from 1 to 5PM.

HIRE 2 TEACHERS

PORT WASHINGTON - Connie Kinsey and Esther Burkey have accepted teaching positions in the Salem-Washington School District.  Miss Kinsey, a graduate of New Philadelphia High, attended Stephens College and is teaching for the first time.  She will have 1st Grade students.  Miss Burkey who has had 16 years teaching experience will have 2nd and 3rd Grades.  She attended Coshocton Normal School and Kent State University.  A resident of Fresno she has been in the Tuscarawas County system 5 years.
