62 - Port Washington Graduates For 1962





PORT WASHINGTON - Donna Rankin will lead her 20 classmates at the 63rd Annual Commencement Monday.  She was named valedictorian with a 3.94 average.  Carole Ross was named salutatorian.  Donna, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Rankin of RD 2, here, is a member of the National Honor Society, Scholarship Team, Student Council, Debate, Camera and Varsity Clubs, served on the school paper and yearbook staffs and took part in the Junior and Senior plays.  She served as secretary and vice-president of her class and will enroll at Malone College in Canton this fall.  Carole, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ross of RD 3, Newcomerstown, compiled a 3.87 average for her 4 years.  Also a member of the Honor Society and  Scholarship Team, she was active in the band, Glee Club, Camera,  Library, Pep and VarsityClubs, Junior and Senior plays and the  paper and yearbook staffs.  Carole served as a cheerleader and  majoret and was president and secretary of her class.  Carole has accepted a clerk-typist job with the United States Information  Agency.  Rev. Charles Sellers of  Peoli and  Hartwood Methodist Churches will deliver  the baccalaureate sermond Sunday in the school at 8PM.  His topic will be "The Issue at Stake."  Rev. Warren Wenger of the Moravian Church here will offer the invocation and benediction.  Martha McMullen will be pianist for the processional and recessional.  Dr. P. H. Augustine, pastor of the  Federated Church at East Springfield, PA, will present the commencement address in the school auditorium beginning at 8 PM.  Donna and Carole also will speak.  Dr. Augustine considered one  of America's most ablest speakers and who addressed the 1957 class here, will  use "Freedoms We Love" as his theme.  Supt. John Toth Jr. will present the class and J.
