63 - Hiland Slaps Baltic 69-45 (11-30-62)

BALTIC - Baltic's Eagles (1-2) tried valiantly during the early going, but they didn't have the "wings" displayed by the powerful Hiland Hawks (1-0) as the visitors opened their 1962-1963 season with a victory.  The Eagles kept within striking distance of the invaders until near the end of the 3rd period.  But the Hawks poured on the steam for an impressive win.  Hiland, Ohio's class "A" schoolboy tournament runner-up last year, commanded quarter leads of 14-6, 30-20 and 49-34 as Art Mullet and Joel Menuez, 2 of 3 returning lettermen from last year's squad, showed the way.  Mullet potted 12 baskets for 24 points.  Menuez finished with 17  Dan Erb contributed 10 to the attack.  Dick Gerber was the only Eagle able to hit consistently.  He potted 12 points in the first half and 15 in the second to grab scoring laurels.  Dale Stein caged 11, but the remainder of the club wasn't able to click.  The well-played contest saw only 24 foul shots.  Hiland meshed 9 of 14, Baltic 5 of 10.  In the Reserve game, Hiland (1-0) stomped Baltic (0-3) 56-27.
