62 - Hiland Drops Gnaden From The Sectional Tournament 3-2 (5-3-62)

SUGARCREEK - Hiland nipped Gnadenhutten (8-1) Thursday in the Class "A" Sectional to become "co-champions" with Dover St. Joseph's and advance to next week's Districk Tournament at Martins Ferry.  Art Mullet pitched and batted the Hawks to victory as he limited the Indians to but 4 hits, walked the same number and struck out 6.  He also drove in 2 runs with a Home Run and a triple and scored another.  Dave Struchen (5-1) hurled all the way for Coach Ted Martin's crew, giving up 5 hits, walking only one whiffing 3.  The Indians scored first, in the bottom of the second inning, as Jim McCreary singled, was sacrificed to second by Bruce Kohl and took third and scored on 2 passed balls.  The Tribe added a run in the third as Glenn Miller led off with a single, stole second and advanced to third and scored on 2 infield outs.  Hiland got on the score board in the fourth as Mullet blasted a triple to right-center leading off and scored on a throwing error.  Colin Mishler followed with a single, advanced to second on an error and scored on  a single by Joe Menuez.  Mullet won his own game with a long Home Run to right field over the fielder's head with two out in the top of the 5th.
