GNADENHUTTEN - Gnadenhutten, County League Fall Champions and recent tournament victor, has found their neighbors are very unfriendly.  The latest un-neighborly gesture was turned in by Port Washinton (5-4) which rallied to whip the Indians (10-3) Tuesday and thereby eliminate the tribe from the running for the spring championship.  Although records are unavailable on all teams, it appears Midvale (7-2) has wrapped up the spring laurels, having finished  its League season with a 7-1 record.  The other Gnaden loss this spring came by way of its Tuscarawas neighbors.

Gnaden got off fast against Port last night, taking a 2-0 lead in the first frame as Glenn Miller singled, Dick Shull singled and Miller scored on an error.  Dave Struchen (6-3) walked and Shull came on home as Jim McCreary grounded out.  The Riders rallied back, Steve Bender getting a walk, Laisure singled and Bender scoring on Tom Loader's ground out.  Paul Schwab then drove Laisure home to tie the count.  In a big 3rd inning, Alvin Fillman singled for Port, Laisure reached on an error and Tom  Loader smashed a triple to send both runners home for a 4-2 lead that stood up.  Fillman (4-3) went the distance to pick up the win, Port's 4th in 8 league games.  He gave up 6 hits, fanned 8 and walked 3, while also pitching out of a tight jam in the  last inning.
